本州、四国及び南西諸島に分布し、台湾や中国からも知られる。枯れ枝に生息する。同じく日本産のH. japonicusによく似るが前胸片の形状が異なる。本種の前胸片の内側は丸まるが、H. japonicusでは尖る。食菌性。

This species is distributed in Honshu, Shikoku and the Ryukyu Islands, and is also known from Taiwan and China. It lives on dead branches. It is very similar to H. japonicus also from Japan, but the shape of the prosternal basantra is different. The inside of the basantra of this species is rounded, but in H. japonicus it is pointed. Fungus-feeder.
